Our intro to La Candelaria <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since I was on a mission to get to know the La Candelaria neighborhood, their \u201cPerfect Introduction to Bogota at La Candelaria Tour<\/a>\u201d fit the need of what I was looking for. With a quick confirmation of availability, I was confirmed for the tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juanita was our guide for the day and was early to meet us at Plazoleta del Rosario. We were both excited as this was her first tour since the pandemic started and as a tour guide myself, I was excited to have a real experience of this part of the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After talking and laughing, she got down to business and we officially began our intro to the neighborhood with some serious subject matters. Colombia has a complicated and violent political history and we started with the murder of political leader Gaitan. The way she told us the story didn\u2019t feel scripted but brought the history to life and you could imagine it all happening right then and there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She then took us to parts of La Candelaria that I had never been to before, exposing the secrets that only locals would know. We visited architectural gems and got recommendations on fabulous caf\u00e9s and restaurants to visit later on. There were lots of great photo moments and quick historical facts along the way. She also offers an additional tour that includes a cacao and coffee workshop<\/a> you can do on certain days that I would recommend as well! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most impactful moment of the tour is visiting Fragmentos, a gallery designed by Colombian artist Doris Salcedo and built by female victims of the conflict in Colombia. I won\u2019t ruin this moment for you, so it\u2019s just something you have to experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 3-hour tour goes by fast and we ended in Chorro de Quevedo, where it all started in Bogot\u00e1. I loved how personal this tour was and that Juanita offers the flexibility to do what you want at your own pace. We may have hired a friend for the day at first, but now we have a new friend in Bogot\u00e1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
